Jordyn got a haircut!
Tuesday, December 18, 2007
Well, at almost 15 months old, Jordyn got her first haircut. Her bangs were so long they were almost at the tip of her nose and she would fight getting her hair in a ponytail. Even when she had the ponytail, she knows how to take it out - and would! So now she has bangs and life is a little easier. Last, there is a pic of dinner at Great Grandma Phyllis and Great Grandpa Wally's house. Jordyn discovered that bowls can double as hats!

Jordyn has had her first major boo-boo. Below is a photo of her scrape - she got hit by a kid on the swing and scraped her head on the ground. True to form, she cried more when they were icing it than when it actually happened. What a trooper. Oh,yeah, and the photo catches her exploring her nose which has become a very frequent occurrence these days. Other than that, Jordyn has been trying to talk a lot more and trying to say things that we say. She will hand us an object and say 'there you go' which of course only we can understand.

Happy Halloween. We know this is a day late but with all the running around daddy had to do, this is the only chance he had to update. Jordyn had a very eventful day. After daddy got off work he picked Jordyn up from daycare and brought her to his work to show off the ducky costume. Once Jordyn and daddy were done there daddy took Jordyn to grandmas work to trick or treat around the office. As you can see from the pictures Jordyn had a great time in her costume.

Jordyn is now 1 year old!!! We cannot believe it. Her birthday party was on her birthday and she had a great time. Thanks to everyone who came, and thank you all for her gifts. Jordyn had her very first dessert - a cupcake. We made special Sprinkles cupcakes and they were delicious. Here are just a few snippets.

We still wouldn't call it walking yet, but Jordyn is taking lots of steps on her own. She is getting much more brave. And she has said 'mom'! Well, she is making the sound but we are not quite sure she knows what she is saying, just like some of her other "words".
Jordyn has also had some dry skin patches on her face that we have been trying to figure out. They are inconsistent, and we thought they might be heat related, but it may just be that she has really sensitive skin. We are trying a different lotion which seems to be helping so we will see how it goes. There are other photos we will try to post soon, and her 1 year birthday is next month - can you believe it? - so she will be getting pictures done around then that we will put up. Time flies, doesn't it?

She did it! Jordyn walked. She took as many as 5 steps on her own unassisted! And we have a third witness - Kristin was over. Jordyn was so proud of herself she was like a madwoman just zooming between Lauren and Aaron, walking without help. That was Friday. She took a few steps yesterday but is still not ready to go for it. Mommy and Daddy are okay with that - take your time, Jordyn, there's no rush!

Well, Jordyn has experienced her first earthquake. And she slept right through. At about 1am this morning a 4.5 earthquake hit pretty near us - they say 4 miles NNW of Chatsworth.
While we are at it, we must mention that a few days ago Jordyn took her first steps. Well, she was standing up and we let go and she took two steps. Did it twice but hasn't since. She is getting better and stronger and walks with a push toy at daycare so it probably won't be long now. Its pretty scary, she's getting so big!

Well, we survived our first trip with Jordyn. She was awesome on the plane ride. Over 10 hours each way and she did great. She made friends with all the stuardesses, too. London was wonderful. We will post pics here and on the family site and we are detailing what we saw on the family site. Jordyn enjoyed London and though she won't remember it she did get a lot out of all the sights. And she even picked up a bit of the accent - she says uh-oh in an English accent! And before you say its just us that think it, others have noticed it too :)
Jordyn is also getting two more teeth. The ones on either side of the two front teeth are coming through now. Apparently that is the pattern for teething - two at a time.

Well, Jordyn has reached 9 months! She is now 19 lbs. 3 oz and 27 inches long. Luckily when we went for her 9 month shots she only had to get one so she didn't feel so lousy afterwards. Jordyn is now saying 'dada' and 'uh-oh' but we are still quite sure she's not 100% aware of what she is saying. Aaron has been traveling quite a bit for work recently and Jordyn has gotten in the habit of yelling 'Da!' when he is in the car to get his attention and then she will babble to him. Its very cute. She is also trying really hard to say 'doggie'. She absolutely loves dogs, and mostly the big ones. And, Jordyn is also waving. Its very funny because she will see herself in a mirror and start waving. She is still pulling herself up on everything and has let go a few times but she is not very sure of herself yet and won't do it very often. She will walk while holding our hands or along wherever she's pulled herself up, too.
Jordyn is also about to embark on her first vacation! She and Lauren will accompany Aaron when he travels for business to London. We are very excited and hope she does well with the traveling.

Our little trooper! Not only had Jordyn been battling all that stuff - ear infection, allergic reaction - but she was in fact teething, too. We will try to get a good picture but her top two teeth have now broken free of the gum. Man, all that going on and still she barely let us know. She's one tough cookie. And, she can pull herself up by herself and she will do it on anything! She is getting very strong and we are sure its only a (short) matter of time before that girl is walking. She has been doing squats on her toys, slowly lowering herself down while holding on and then standing back up - its pretty cute :)
Jordyn also will follow us if we leave a room. She is lightning fast at crawling and will go after us when we walk. Its so funny, she seems so big when we are holding her and playing right with her but when we look down at her as she is crawling after us she looks soooo small!

**Update** Jordyn sure is putting us through the ringer! Yesterday she had some hives which have overnight spread all over her body. It turns out she is allergic to penicillin, which was in the amoxicillin she was taking for her ear infection. She doesn't seem to be bothered by the rash but it looks awful and could take up to a few weeks to go away. Poor thing!

Things are happening so fast these days its hard to keep up! Over Memorial weekend, Jordyn met her uncle Bryan who visited from North Carolina (pics on our family blog - link to the right). That weekend Jordyn ran a fever of about 102. We made our first trip back to the hospital since she was born but were told it was a virus and we went home. Tuesday we saw her doctor and discovered that she had a nasty ear infection and then Wednesday we were back at the doctor to find out she had Roseola (sp?) and thrush! It kept Lauren out of work for two extra days, but Jordyn was fighting a bunch and it took its toll. She was very cuddly, sensitive and took a lot of naps. But she is a trooper - once again she didn't complain that much so we didn't have an inkling it was an ear infection.
Now that she's feeling better she has made it her mission to stand. She is pulling herself up a lot and over the last few days can almost do it without extra support from us. Mommy and Daddy are now just jungle gyms and she splits her time playing with toys and the turning around to climb on us. She has also started to take steps when we hold her hands. She's also back to sleeping better through the night, and loves saying 'dadadada'. Go Jordyn!

Oh yeah, and we forgot to even mention Mother's day - Lauren and Jordyn's first! It was a good day just spending time together. Jordyn made Lauren a plant at daycare, it is the first one Lauren has not killed and its still blooming. We will get a pic on soon, it was very cute. Jordyn also got Mommy a gift certificate to get a massage which Lauren is looking forward to using.

Okay, you can just barely see the two teeth in the first picture, you may have to click on it to enlarge it to see them. They are out even more now so we will try to get a better picture this weekend to post. The second pic is Jordyn after having some cereal and vegetables - she smeared it all over her face!

BIG GIRL!
We promise pictures soon, but had to share that Jordyn is now crawling and has two teeth! Her bottom two teeth are coming in together. She was very uncomfortable for about a week but seems to be better now. She doesn't like us checking her mouth so we are not sure how many more are lurking beneath the surface but we got a great pic this weekend of the teefers so we will post that soon. Jordyn is also switching between army crawl and real crawling, she is trying so hard but is not quite comfortable moving a lot on all fours. She is also getting herself into a sort of downward dog position from yoga - her tush goes straight up in the air and she is pushing up from her hands and toes. Pretty cute! She is also trying to pull herself up on things. Getting stronger every day :)

She gets bigger by the day. Jordyn has had her first real food - a cracker cookie. She loved it. She has also been given a sippy cup to figure out. She doesn't quite get that she can suck on it to get the juice but we are sure she will figure it out soon. Our Peanut has also been scooting on the floor and army crawling backwards. She still sits up really well, and has even tried to pull herself up by holding on to the edge of her crib.

Jordyn is a big girl! We are very proud to announce that for the past week, Jordyn has been sleeping....drumroll, please.... in her crib in her own room! We know, we know, its about time! But seriously, we had a very hard time accepting the fact that it was time to put her in her own room. She has been too big for the bassinet for a while (weight wise) and the crib mattress is much firmer which we think she prefers. She has slept great though a few times she's gotten up to eat. She's so funny, we still put her down on her back like the doctor says, but Jordyn almost immediately flips over to her stomach and sleeps with her knees scrunched up and her tush in the air! So cute!
This weekend also was Jordyn's first time in a high chair. We figured since she sits up so well there is not a lot of danger of her slumping or slamming over and she just loves being part of the table like a big girl. And its easier for us, too!
Last, we forgot to mention in the last post that Jordyn likes to cross her ankles like a proper little lady. When she is in her bouncer, she will cross her ankles over and it is soooo cute! We got a pic of her leaning against a pillow doing it, too.
We have also finally settled on a sort of theme for Jordyn's room. We didn't want to go too girly because we are sure she will go through a phase where she dislikes the princessy, pretty girly stuff so we went with a funky theme of big flowers and black and white tiger stripes. We still have some painting in her room to do but we hung the curtains and that alone transformed the room. Pics of all this will be forthcoming but for now we wanted to make sure we posted everything.

Wow, our little girl is 6 months old! And you know what that means, more shots! This time, Aaron was out of town on business so Lauren had to take Jordyn by herself yesterday for shots. We found out that Jordyn weighs 16 pounds 9 ounces and is over 25 inches long. She is now right at the 50th percentile for height and weight. The doctor said she sits up very well for a 6 month old. Here's a few examples.

Jordyn has her first ear infection! We would not have known but she has had a cough for a while and Monday morning she was practically hacking so we took her in. The doctor was surprised that she was still sleeping well and generally happy. She also had her first nasty diaper rash last week but again her mood is pretty unaffected by it. The meds seem to be working well for her ear, she has barely been coughing. We also found out she weighs 15 pounds 15 oz - time to really get her in the crib! Yes, we are bad, Jordyn is still sleeping next to us in her pack and play. We got a crib bumber for her since now she moves all around in her sleep. We frequently find her turned sideways in the pack and play. Due to the ear infection her 6 month shots were postponed an extra week.
We have also started to give Jordyn baths in the big bath tub. We put her tub in the big one because she splashes so much she was getting water all over the kitchen. Now she can splash as much as she wants, and she loves it.
And in other good news, this should probably go on the family site, but Lauren finally found a new job closer to home. She is now 20 minutes away rather than over an hour. Yay!

Finally some pictures!

Time sure does fly. Jordyn is 5 months old! She got another cold about a week and a half ago and had to go back to the doctor. She is now over 15 pounds! That means that we really have to get her out of the pack and play and into her crib. The other night she slept half the night in her crib but for the past month she has not been sleeping through the night so she spent the second half in her pack and play next to us. We read that one of the reasons she may not be sleeping through the night is because she is now really moving and concentrating so hard on it that she sort of wakes herself up and wants to move. Last night was the first in a while we didn't have to get up with her.
Jordyn has been scooching on her back for a while now but this past week she really figured out that she can get across a room that way. She had Joanne, her daycare provider, cracking up because she got herself all the way across the playroom that way. Jordyn also has rolled from her back to her tummy. We were so worried that all her milestones would be happening during the day and we would miss them but so far Jordyn has done them all at home with us. She did it for the first time at home with Lauren and the second time at daycare with Joanne. Aaron still has not seen it yet but when she becomes more consistent we have no doubt he will see lots of it. Lastly, she is starting to sit up a little. She's been jack-knifing in her car seat for a bit and she has sat up unassisted for about 30 seconds. She's definitely growing up and getting stronger!
And finally here are a few pics. This first one is from Superbowl - one month ago. Skylar and her parents came over and the girls are getting reintroduced. Aaron loves this picture because he thinks it showcases his little girls' left hook, but really Jordyn was reaching out for a hug and Skylar was having none of it.

This is her first experience with cereal. She looovvveeesss her cereal! We have also introduced green beans, which she does not like so much. She makes the best face that just says 'yuck!' and then gives a shudder like 'I can't believe I just ate that'. She starts sweet peas today and we expect that to go much better.

Jordyn is now 4 months old! Lots to update, and we will have to add pics later but I wanted to get stuff written before we forgot. Last Monday Jordyn was 4 months old. We celebrated by taking her to get her 4 month shots. :( She was a trooper, but this time she did end up getting a fever in addition to just all over not feeling good. She now weighs 14 lbs 3 oz and is 28 inches long. She ended up getting a bit of a cold, too. She was very stuffy in her nose and had some post-nasal drip. We were suctioning her nose a bunch but it just kept coming. Finally on Wednesday the doctor told us we could give her PediaCare, which we did, and it seemed to help a lot. We can also start her on baby cereal now but since she was not feeling well we decided to wait. We will probably start her tonight on that.
Thursday, Jordyn rolled over on purpose for the first time. She hadn't even done it at daycare! Aaron caught her rolling over on the video on his phone so at least we have record of it.
Jordyn has also been playing in her exersaucer for about 2 weeks now. Since she can hold her head up now she can play in it. Its great because the exersaucer can be put wherever we are and Jordyn is entertained and we have hands free to get chores done. And she absolutely loves being in it. She can bounce a bit and turn around and there are a bunch of toys to play with.
We have lots of pictures to post and we promise we will get to them soon. She is growing up so fast!

So, last weekend Aaron, Lauren and Jordyn were out with Lauren's mom waiting for a table at a restaurant. Lauren and Auntie Pam went to the bar to grab a drink and Aaron was holding Jordyn. Some lady came up and asked Lauren's mom if Jordyn was her first - CHILD! Then, this past weekend Lauren, Jordyn and Lauren's dad were watching the football game and some guy was admiring Jordyn and then congratulated us. Lauren's dad said he remembered when Lauren was that age and the guy apologized, he was thinking Grandpa was Dad! Wow, congrats, Gramma Nita and Grampa Dave - you look young enough to have a 3 1/2 month old!
Its been great lately when we take Jordyn out, everyone stops to admire her and everyone tells us how beautiful she is. Watch out, this girl's gonna have confidence to spare!
Overnight, Jordyn has started talking non-stop. All weekend long she has been jabbering on and on and on, its so cute. She is also discovering that her voice can make high and low sounds, so she will "ahhh", and scream, and grunt. Its pretty funny. She is also grabbing toys a lot more. She concentrates real hard, and grabs them and they go right into the mouth most of the time. Such progress overnight!

Jordyn has reached a new milestone: she is grasping toys! We have been bringing out a few toys and she just loves them. She really likes the colors and noise they make, and there is such concentration in her eyes. She looks like she really wants to grab whatever is in front of her. She is not real consistent yet but when she does reach for the toy and can hold on with both hands. She has held one up all by herself! Of course with the reach and grasp also comes the pull back and straight into the mouth. She has been sucking on her fingers and hands quite a bit as well.
Jordyn also has quite a few bald spots on her head - and they are perfectly round little spots! We can't wait to see what color starts to grow back!

Well, since we last posted, our little peanut has had her first Christmas, moved to a house and had her first New Year's celebration. She is now 3 months old and doing just great. She is definitely growing, we can tell she is getting taller. We actually have clothes that are too small for her now! Her neck is getting
stronger so soon she will be able to play in her Exersaucer and jumper. She is also "talking" up a storm so we think she will be a little talker once she learns how - hmmm that apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Her hair is falling out a bit, and she has got a nice bald spot from rubbing her head in bed so it will be interesting to see if it comes back any lighter.
